He didn't say you did Just that you worked together there
[ So this guy is probably no good for keeping tabs on what Ardyn is doing there, but let's face it, if Ardyn wants something hidden, Noct's not going to find out about it until after the worst has already happened, anyway. Damage control, thy name is Lucis Caelum. ]
And that you needed magitek for something
[ Here he is, the damage control, nice to meet you. ]
[ Not a need, huh. Then just Ardyn sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. Great. Or maybe it's not like that and Noctis is jumping to conclusions. It'd be nice for things to be simple for a change. ]
[ Okay Noctis is just going to. Read that. A couple times. And still not entirely get it. A "facsimile of life" doesn't sounds so bad in the scheme of things. Maybe. Until the brooms take over and flood the place.
It sure as hell doesn't sound like self-interest, either way. Not unless this guy is a golem.
Maybe he is.
Alright, it's not something simple, that's for sure. ]
Magitek was used to fight a war where I'm from The Empire built an army with it, and replaced real soldiers with magitek and daemons Ardyn showed them how to do it
[ So like, anybody could see why Noctis is concerned, right? Nobody wants to see history repeat itself. Except the people that do. ]
Ugh. He doesn't like talking about himself as is, and now that there's nothing to gain from it, he really doesn't want to.
... but he doesn't want to leave any misunderstanding hanging around, in case Ardyn said anything that could be taken the wrong way. ]
I was interested in replacing some of my moonblessing features with golemancy so they would be easier to handle. But adapting to a different magical system is difficult.
He mentioned magitek during this discussion. Studying an alternative technology would indirectly help me towards that end.
[ Nothing's ever easy, is it? There had to be a reason Ardyn told him about this guy. Maybe he's getting fleeced again. But if it really helps him... Noctis knows firsthand how bad those moonblessings can be. And he doesn't even have it that bad compared to some people.
Good intentions... That's how it always starts out. But being heartless isn't the answer, either. ]
Look you know why I think it's a bad idea Using daemons like that is dangerous But any kind of weapon is dangerous in the wrong hands I'm not going to decide for you, but I won't stand in your way
If you do use it though... I'd like to hear about it If you don't mind I kind of feel like I owe you now for talking to somebody you don't know already this much
[ He knows what real physical distress is like; the moonblessings are incredibly annoying, but not at that level. (Yet.)
That said, he sighs to himself again. In a way, Noctis' acquiescence is even more annoying than the request to stop. He doesn't like dealing with people in the first place, and this sort of nuanced conversation is hard to handle. ]
You went through the trouble of contacting a stranger. It speaks to your level of potential distress. That's not something that can be so easily ignored. I'll consider my options.
For now, I'd like to ask what your relationship to Ardyn is. Most would not speak at length with the man indirectly responsible for exacerbating their country's war.
[ If Avicebron's not a fan of nuanced conversation, he really won't like the answer to that question. Which is fine, because Noctis isn't really eager to explain. ]
Know the saying about a bad coin that keeps showing up? That's him. And me too I guess With who we are, we can't really avoid each other I'd go into detail but it's a long story
[ Also he doesn't really want to tell it. But he might need Avice's help again, and he definitely wants to keep in contact if he does go through with the magitek thing... ]
If you ever want to meet in person, I'll tell you about it sometime.
But alright, he gets it. Some things just aren't fit to be discussed through brief writing like this. ]
Very well.
I'd prefer to know the full story before making my decision. You're free to visit my office at the Lunar Scientia headquarters at any time. I work in the geology department. If you ask for Caster, someone should be able to point you to my office.
Perhaps seeing my work in person will also affect your feelings on the matter, for better or for worse.

Gold eyes, reddish brownish hair
Loves wearing three layers in the 90 degree heat
You do work with him, right?
[ Because like if that was a lie and Noctis is embarrassing himself here, he honestly wouldn't be surprised. ]

In the sense that we're both under the employ of the Lunar Scientia.
I don't believe we directly share any projects.
[ So it was only a kinda-sorta-lie. ]

I wouldn't say 'need.' I'm interested in it.
[ That's an important distinction to him. ]
He said some of my work is reminiscent of your magitek. I'd like to study the differences to potentially improve upon my work.

What kind of work?

I assume you’re not inquiring out of simple curiosity.

Unseen, he sighs to himself. Not terribly surprising. Of course any useful technology would go hand-in-hand with conflict and bloodshed.
There's a lot he could say about this, and a lot he wants to ask, but (unlike Noctis), he'll get to the main point straight away: ]
I'm not interested in causing conflict or discomfort. If my studying magitek would cause you distress, I'll refrain.
[ Admittedly with just a little reluctance. But still. ]
no subject
Yeah, it would.
[ To put it mildly. And his friends, too. Nobody wants daemons and MTs in Lunatia. ...But— ]
You said it was just for work or whatever, but he said it could help you
